Had Your License Suspended? Use SR-22 To Get Your License Back When It's Time

If you had your license suspended, you may need an SR-22 form in order to get your license back. This does depend on what state you live in so you should check with your insurance company to ensure that you do need this. If so, below is information about what SR-22 insurance is, as well as how it works to get you back on track again.

What is an SR-22 Certificate

SR-22 is a certificate that you show to prove that you have the minimum amount of car insurance that is required for you to drive a car. You also need an SR-22 in order to get your license back again.

You will get the SR-22 certificate through your insurance company. Once the certificate is filled out, the insurance company will file the certificate with the state on your behalf once you receive your license back.

Determine if You Need an SR-22 Certificate

There are many reasons why you would need an SR-22 certificate. For example, if you have had a DWI or a DUI conviction you may need this. Also, if you were ticketed for driving without any car insurance you may lose your license.

If you were in a serious car accident and had no insurance, you may lose your license. If you were driving drunk and caused the accident, your license will likely be suspended. In some cases, if you have too many tickets on your driver's license your license may be suspended.

What to Do

You may be consumed on where to get started with getting an SR-22 document. If you currently have car insurance, you first need to contact your insurance agent to ask them to file the document for you. In many states, it will be required by the courts that your insurance file the document for you.

If you do not currently have car insurance and are currently trying to find an insurance company, you need to tell them about your license suspension and that you need an SR-22 certificate.

You should be aware that no matter if you currently have insurance or signing up with new insurance you will likely be charged a fee for the SR-22 document. Your insurance company may also raise your premiums because you are considered to be high risk. The insurance company may drop your rates after a certain amount of time, but it may take a few years. This is only, however, if you do not get any tickets during that time.

The insurance company that you have can give you much more information about the SR-22 certificate.
